The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) is an intergovernmental joint institute of member states. Currently, 36 governments are members of this organization. Founded in 1995, IDEA is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
The organization's tasks include creating the necessary conditions for the development and strengthening of democratic institutions in countries, providing a platform for free communication and discussion among scholars, experts, and activists in the field of democracy worldwide, promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the organization of elections, and analyzing and monitoring democratic trends.
Since 2019, the Secretary-General of International IDEA has been Kevin Casas-Zamora.
